On this blustery February day, I am happily in my studio creating with lots of colour. I can’t quite believe that I am heading into my 4th One of A Kind Spring Show! If you plan on attending, please use my OOAK link to save money on your online ticket purchase.

So what’s currently on the go you ask…

#1: I am creating many mixed-media canvases, including my whimsical girls, Buddhas & mermaids. New & old quotes, different backgrounds, experimenting with assorted art supplies, all this & more can be found in my canvases. This great quote is from the very wonderful, Tina Fey.

#2: I have been working on this project for a while now. Using old barn board & my photography, I have created unique little wooden houses. Whether they bring back memories of your travels or simply entice you to dream of creating new ones, these petites maisons are pretty perfect!

#3: Finally, I too have got mono print fever and have chosen to create some collage animals on canvas.

Shows in 2015

15-m22Last week, I was part of Blossom & Bloom in Markham, an outdoor market that showcases Canadian creative businesses, local florists & artists. I was there as part of Artrepreneur, a program sponsored by the York Region Arts Council. I am halfway through the Artrepreneur program & not only am I learning how to equip myself with business skills to help my creative process, but I am meeting, sharing and collaborating with some extraordinary people. I decided to showcase this new mixed-media canvas, my biggest to date, a 15″ by 30″ mermaid — and she sold!

June is always incredibly busy, and this one is no exception. Both my kids are graduating next week -The Juicer is getting ready for high school, and Miss Know-It-All is graduating from high school! When you are young and you hear people talk about time flying, you never believe them, but boy are they right!

I am very happy to  announce that I will once again be an exhibitor during the first 5 days at the One of a Kind Show in Toronto this Christmas — yes, I know you don’t want to here that word right now, just place it in your iCalendar and forget about it.

But until then, I will be doing 2 summers shows, a small art show this Sunday in Vaughan, and during the PAN AM Games at Markham GlobalFest in July. I then do a few shows in the fall leading up to my 4th beyondCRAFT SHOW in November. All the details are located under the, “EVENTS & LOCATIONS” section of the website.

Fall — in love

DSC_0352I love autumn. New beginnings and a time for change. The days get shorter, mornings are cool and all the shades of yellows, oranges and reds are seen from my windows.

It also means Arts & Crafts Shows season! That means that I am busy creating. The Georgina Studio Tour was a blast. Probably the most perfect weekend — thank-you to all the wonderful people who stopped by Homestead Orchards to visit (and to buy apple pie).

I am preparing for beyondCRAFT Show & Sale which starts in little over a month, at the Latcham Gallery in Stouffville. If you have never been, it is a great show —  like a mini One of a Kind. Speaking of which yes, I am getting ready for my first Christmas One of a Kind. Remember if you are going to the show, I am there during the second half, December 2nd to the 7th.

Here are some of my newer canvases. As you can tell, this home quote is a favourite of mine. It seems to resonate with many other people too, so it is a keeper.14-h28 214-h28 14-h28-2

I am also enjoying my woodland girl canvases. I think a boy is next — perhaps a couple?

I’m Everywhere!

I am so thrilled to announce that I will be an exhibitor at this year’s One of a Kind Christmas Show! I will be at the show for 6 days, from December 2nd through to the 7th. I am still dazed from the news. I am constantly working to improve my art, learning new techniques, and exploring new mediums, so one of my goals will be to have new creations to debut at this show, along with my mixed-media canvases and cards.

IMG_5950I have also branched out into Cannington and Newmarket. The Ginkgo Tree is a lovely shoppe in Cannington filled with locally handmade goods, ranging from soaps & health aids to local art. The apothecary carries a wide variety of herbal remedies, bulk medicinal herbs and tinctures, and the tea room offers a yummy light menu with many homemade treats to finish off your meal. You can find my mixed-media canvases, cards & jewellery are there.

My favourite grocery store, Nature’s Emporium in Newmarket has a wonderful shop practically located in it called, DayLyn Local & Global Healing. Along with its healing centre, DayLyn supports local artisans, fair trade, handcrafted and environmentally friendly products to assist in the healing journey. I love to wander through this store with its beautiful clothes, jewellery and home decor. All items are handpicked to carry a message of commitment to wellness. I am fortunate enough to have my cards & canvases there as well.

A Great Big THANK-YOU!

IMG_7787-2First off — a great, big THANK-YOU to all the folks that stopped by P22 at the Spring One Of A Kind Show this past week. It was my second time at the show, but my first actual booth. It was so nice to have more space to showcase my art.

Life loves to throw curves at us, and leading up to this show, our days were filled with extreme highs & lows, & as I raced along I really wondered how much more I could possibly handle. So receiving the kind compliments & words of encouragement that I did during those 5 days really filled me with gratitude & reaffirmed for me that my art touches many fellow souls. I met some incredible people & had such wonderful conversations with them about how the images & sayings related to their lives. I feel that my canvases & cards have all found good homes.

NEA_1016Now that I am an exhibitor at the show, I no longer get to leisurely stroll the long aisles, but I did manage to get some shopping in. Above are a few of purchases, all adding to collections we have already started with these wonderful artisans. The spiky fellow is by Creations Li, the Rebeer glass from Artech Glassblowing Studios, & the awesome grinder is from Arbol.

My next outing is with  Pointer Scrapbooking at Scrapfest In Kitchener April 11-12, where I will be doing mixed-media make ‘n takes at their booth. After that I will be teaching a mixed-media class in Markham at the Pointer Scrapbooking store on Wed April 16th from 5-8pm. Contact the store to confirm your spot!

I look forward to virtually reconnecting with many of you to continue our conversations, and getting to know a little better my new friends.

beyondCRAFT 2013

Once again, my jewellery, canvases & cards are at the beyondCRAFT Show & Sale in the Latcham Gallery, Stouffville, from November 14th to 17th. I have been experimenting with all sorts of supplies like Big Village recycled glass fair trade beads from Ghana, West Africa for my jewellery, to Shiva oil paintstik’s on my canvases. My cards are now available in sets of 4, and come in assorted, girls & spiritual themes. I have been playing with bigger canvases, and although it takes me much longer to complete, I am loving the process.

Lotus Flower Art

When Simplicity Yoga offered to have my canvases on display at the studio, I started thinking in terms of incorporating spirituality into my art. What blossomed were my Buddha and lotus flower canvases. I enjoy making the petals of the flower out of interesting papers, like glossy, embossed & even newsprint.

Lotus positionIn yoga, the lotus represents the Lotus Pose or Padmasana, where the feet and legs represent the petals of the lotus flower. It opens the hips, strengthens the back and creates flexibility in the knees and is a base pose for meditation, chanting and pranayama (breathing techniques).
