Last Friday night, I had the pleasure of attending the lovely mixed-media guru Donna Downey‘s “PanPastel Painting” workshop in Cambridge at The Art House Studio. I had never been to Karen Ellis’ store and after walking in I wondered why it had taken me so long to get there! Her shop is definitely a mixed-media supply haven, with wonderful art from previous classes decorating the walls.
I would have gladly spent the whole weekend there taking classes, but since I had limited myself to only one, I decided to try something completely new to me, which I had no previous experience with. PanPastels are soft pastels packed into solid cake form. They come in 80 beautiful colours and are quite addictive.
During the 5-hour class, I was able to create these 2 11×14 canvases, which I still can’t believe I was able to accomplish. No drawing, no sketching, just application of these luscious colours with blending tools.
Let me know what you think! Now that I have conquered trees, any suggestions as to what I should attempt next?
